Collage on paper
42 x 30cm
It’s taken quite a while to reach the end with this. It’s been a tough one.
Most of the time my collage/mixed media work is fairly random and instinctive. I like working that way I try to avoid anything too themed or meaningful and I absolutely try to avoid over thinking my process. I’d rather do the thinking after the work is done 🙂
And then I decided to put something together inspired by the current Ukrainian situation and boy it’s been so so different to how I usually work. I was tackling something that has a huge amount of meaning. It wasn’t remotely trivial or random. I struggled big time. I had lots of failed attempts at creating this… Then, in the end I got so despondent with the whole thing I decided to destroy my artwork, which I did. And that’s when the fun really started 🙂 I also felt that destroying something and creating art with the fragments fit the subject matter rather nicely.
So yep… Quite a journey this one
