Yet another of my Sky Artist of the Week portraits. On this week’s show the sitter was singer songwriter Melanie Blatt with artist Inge du Plessi.

I remembered seeing Inge when she appeared on the Portrait Artist show a few years ago and really loved her large, vibrant, colourful portraits. Sadly I didn’t get to watch the live stream of her painting Melanie, but I did catch a few snippets a few days later.

Unlike most of my recent Sky Artist of Week portraits, this was done without really any insight into the sitter. I’m aware of Melanie and do know a wee bit about her, but I’ve always said how really useful these live paint-alongs have been to really get to know the sitters. I didn’t get this with Melanie, so my ink and mixed media version was mainly based around a few screenshots I captured for the likeness and the use of an old French map, as I had a vague memory of Melanie spending time in France??? I may be wrong on that, but I like the map anyway 🙂

Original artwork and signed prints of this piece are available to purchase via my online shop.

And for anyone interested in exactly how I put this artwork together. Here’s a video of me discussing my process, my ways of working and then some very sped up video film of me completing this from start to finish.
