Mixed media collage course…

posted in: Collage | 0

I’m due to start teaching another 10 week mixed media collage course at Embrace Arts, Leicester in a month, but only if enough people sign up. And at the moment, they have rather a lot of places still up for grabs.

The Course

Acquire new skills and techniques in this exploration of the many  alternative ways to create collage art.  An opportunity to experiment and create art in a friendly, non-pressured environment. For all ages & abilities.

Collage – a technique of composing a work of art by pasting on a single surface various materials not normally associated with one another. The art of collage can encompass a whole array of materials, from magazines, photographs, tickets or postcards, to textiles, tissues, found objects & text. This course will explore the many different ways at creating collage art & will look at the many alternative ways of gathering information that can be used in collage art.

While looking at the history of collage & experimenting with the better known techniques, this course will also explore & experiment with image relief & distressing, photomontage, frottage & the use of a journal. All of which are valuable tools to help when creating collage work. The course is open to people of all ages & abilities, whether you are new to the art of collage or if you’d like to develop your skills further. It is also an opportunity to gain experience & confidence and to share your artwork with your fellow learners.

Objectives/Outcomes

  • Gain confidence with their own artwork.
  • Acquire new skills & techniques for creating collage artwork.
  • Look at ‘alternative’ ways of creating collage work.
  • Gain an insight into the history of collage art.
  • To have fun experimenting & creating art in a friendly non-pressured environment.

So if this all sounds like jolly good fun (and why wouldn’t it?) and you fancy trying your hand at a spot of collage on a Thursday morning 11:00 – 1:00, then check out this website for more details. It would be a big shame if the course has to be cancelled (well it will for me anyway 🙄 )
